  Personal favourite is the farmers loaf - wonderful to take home, cut a slice whilst the outside is still crunchy, and eat with butter. Makes great toast if you have any left over the next day. Also recommend the steak & peppercorn pie as well as for dessert the apple or the sour cherry pies (good cold, but best warmed up in oven and eaten with good ice cream). Lovely food, friendly service. Can be very busy on weekends but worth the wait. I'm an ex-local but still come up when I can to get my fix - just get there early as the farmers loaves go quickly! Oh word of warning - the sour cherry pies can have the occasional stone so just need to be careful when eating them.

  However I suggest you get in early by 1PM they are usually sold out of a lot of their best bits. Between 11 and 12 is the best time to stop by. Worth a visit whether you are a local or a tourist just passing by the mountain for the day.

  Mount Dandenong Bakery is my local bakery and never fails to disappoint. The sausage rolls are the best in Melbourne, crispy on the outside soft on the inside. The donuts are your classic Aussie bakery style donuts but offer a great sweet bite after lunch.
